Hours Away...

Wow, what a night...Who would have thought Shannon would have slept so well and I was the one up all night. So many things even within the wee hours of the morning have transpired. We even just got off the phone with Michelle Bond from State Department who wished us well and congratulated us on our tiny miracle. She said she feels we have done everything we could have done to answer the RFEs. I took from that it is simply now a matter of time to get our approvals.

There are so many things I want to say that I will keep this brief and add when we return this evening. Currently I am afraid of shorting out the computer as I type a few words and then dry my eyes, type a few words and wipe my nose.

We are going to get our daughter...even now, saying and typing the words seems surreal. It has been way too long in coming. But nothing worth having comes easy, and nothing in this world is worth more than "our tiny miracle." I pray I will bless her in her life half as much as she has already blessed me...and I have yet to hear her for the first time say, "I love you daddy!" Wow, talk about melting a heart. It is already a molten pile of goo...

More to come later today. For now, thanks for the emails, thoughts and prayers. God bless you all. We love you! Jason

Photos of Day 1: Hanoi

Photos...Hanoi from our hotel room, Jason carrying bags, power line nightmare, the streets of Hanoi, the outside of our hotel....

It's a rainy day! We went to breakfast downstairs in the hotel and it was really good. Omelet station, pancakes, and some awesome passion fruit juice. We met a couple in the restaurant, another CAS family who adopted an adorable baby boy from Da Nang province. They are waiting on his US visa. We told them we were one of the TQ families with RFE and their response "You guys are brave"!
We made our way to the Hanoi Star Supermarket and bought water, formula, clothes detergent, dish detergent, peanut butter & jelly/bread...we also have tons of snacks in the room.
I have attached photos of "Hanoi city sights". Lots of motor bikes, and the power lines. WOW!!! No wonder they have frequent power outages in this city!!!
Jason talked to Ninh and he is picking us up in the morning at 6:30am for the trip to Tuyen Quang to officially adopt Halle-Grace. Tuesday is a holiday here so we will get her Vietnamese Visa on Wed. and find a "home away from home" a realtor is picking us up to find an apartment (I'll do good Mer)
Tomorrow, I will post photos as soon as I can and video, etc. I am so excited I can barely stand it. The trip to Tuyen Quang is an ALL DAY TRIP. 4 hours there...G&R...kiss all of the babies and the nannies....Ninh getting affidavits signed (YEAH!!!!! all the CAS families and hens will scream when they read this)....taking lots of photos....then 4 hours back and sleep all night with Halle-Grace (I will stare at her all night)! God is GOOD!

Love you all!

Shannon & Jason (soon...Halle-Grace too)!
Gotta run...I have to pack her diaper bag and get all set for tomorrow!
PLEASE keep our family in your prayers!

HELLO HANOI

We made it! We made the first BOO BOO! DO NOT RIDE IN A TAXI that is not listed as one!!! LOL. We have NO idea who brought us across town last night! We are safe but and are laughing about it now. It is pouring rain, we are hungry...going to eat breakfast...going apartment hunting (they may be closed until Wed.) so Halle-Grace will maybe get to help us pick out a place. Will type more as soon I can. HUNGRY! Upset that ASU did not win:( Happy to be in Halle-Grace's birth country and a day closer to seeing/holding/loving her for the rest of our lives!!!! WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO

Love you all

15 hours and we are in Korea! G&R set for LABOR DAY!!!

Jason & I left Atlanta and flew Korean Air to Korea! 15 hours later we are anxiously awaiting our flight to Hanoi. That is only 4 1/2 more hours in the air! That's a piece of cake! I have to tell you I LOVE KOREAN AIR! My goodness they feed you like a Queen...US Airways needs to take some lessons! They bring you hot towels, a personal kit with a toothbrush, socks and night blinders. They also shut all window shades and turn the lights out to help you get on "Korean time" which is one hour behind Hanoi time! By the way, Vietnam is exactly 12 hours ahead of eastern standard time. GOSH, I am going to miss the ASU/ LSU game...GO APP STATE. Hunter, you watch it for me and tell me all about it!

The Korean Air crew dresses in "Tiffany" blue and they look beautiful! They bow to you and they are SO friendly! Normally, I am afraid to fly...not today! I was so excited that I cheered when the plane took off! Jason & I stayed with Caitlin-Brooke in Atlanta and that was a nice treat! I can't believe she is 15! They grow up so fast...never miss a moment...which brings me to GOOD NEWS! Originally, we were told our Giving & Receiving Ceremony was scheduled for Sept.3rd. I received an email from our AWESOME coordinator at CAS, Allie...she reported MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st! That's Labor Day in America...and Halle-Grace day for us! I can hardly contain myself! Jason & I will have to catch up on our sleep and get ready for our precious Halle-Grace! You can see her in the video in the posts below! She is just simply adorable! We are praying about meeting our daughter, we are MORE than ready. I hope God prepares her little heart for all the love!!!
We will be off to Hanoi soon. When we step on Vietnamese soil, we are standing in Halle-Grace's birth country...how cool is that going to be. I will probably cry...Suzie is crying just reading this (I know my sister)!! AND I love her so much!

Oh...Jason was sleeping but woke up to call his mom to make sure Gabby is getting her Atopica! He is going to spend a million dollars calling at 6 & 7 (am & pm) making sure Gabby is getting her meds!

Talk to you all from HANOI, VIETNAM!!!!

GOD BLESS YOU ALL..HALLE-GRACE PHOTOS COMING SOON

Designer Shoes inspired by a 9 month old princess, Halle-Grace

Our daughter is special! Well, we already know that.... Now, she has shoes inspired by "her". A friend of mine from Oklahoma, Alicia Hill, has her own shoe line. Check her out and support her fabulous SHOES!! www.aliciahill.com

This past weekend, Alicia was revealing some of her new shoes in her line for the 2009 prom season. We were sitting in her showroom in Atlanta coming up with names for her "new" shoes. Most all names are inspired by "famous people"... such as "Marilyn" for Marilyn Monroe, and so on. I was so excited to see a HALLE in the line, named originally for Halle Berry. Our HALLE comes from HALLElujah! I asked Alicia to name a particular shoe "GRACE"! We so need a Halle-Grace in the shoe line, I told her!!! She didn't say a lot but to my surprise the next day she walked in and told me "the shoe is now officially GRACE!" The photo above is a picture of HALLE & GRACE in the Alicia Hill shoe line! ("Halle" on the left comes in silver & gold..."Grace" is a white dyeable shoe)

Thanks Alicia! Sending HALLE GRACE love all the way from VN to you in Oklahoma!

Now go buy the Halle & Grace shoes....www.aliciahill.com

Received new photos yesterday...she is trying to STAND UP! She is growing up SO fast. She is the most gorgeous, adorable baby girl EVER! God is SO GOOD! Even in the storms, praise Him! Even when life is not fair, praise Him, even when your heart is broke, praise Him...He knows how we feel, He loves all of the orphans around the world! This I know! And for that reason, I can go to sleep tonight knowing I will see Halle-Grace VERY SOON!

Things are looking up! Keep praying!!!

FROM CONGRESSMAN MCHENRY'S OFFICE...they continue to be a HUGE SUPPORT!

I just received an e-mail from CIS. They indicated that you should definitely include the Carolina Adoption Services report with your response to the RFE. I would recommend highlighting all of the references to abandonment matters in the report to ensure they are not missed or tuned out. The agency would not go so far as to say the report would necessarily suffice as a stand alone response to the RFE.

Although I would have preferred that CIS concede the report fully addresses the abandonment case concerns, I think this is still progress for two reasons. First, the report is comprehensive and should certainly help. Two, it may be possible to go to some of the sources cited in the report and have them speak directly to the events surrounding your specific case and why the birth parents are unknown. Even if the sources are basically paraphrasing the same general information in the report, but putting referencing it to your specific case, it will serve to put things in context and strengthen your response.

I hope this is useful. We’ll keep you advised of new developments as I learn of them.

Tuyen Quang is among the provinces that the storm passed by!

One of my HENS, Mer (Lulu's mom) emailed the reporter concerning the below story and received this response,

"Tuyen Quang is among the provinces that the storm passed by, and the goverment's yesterday report said the damages in Tuyen Quang were minor, no casualty, only two people wounded."

THANK YOU LORD FOR WATCHING OVER OUR BABIES!!!

Vietnam Says Death Toll From Storm at Least 97; 48 Missing
By Nguyen Dieu Tu Uyen
Aug. 11 (Bloomberg) -- At least 97 people died and 48 people were missing in Vietnam after Tropical Storm Kammuri swept through the north from Aug. 8. causing floods and landslides, according to the National Committee for Flood and Storm Control.
``There are many villages that remain isolated after landslides destroyed roads in our area,'' said Pham Duc Dung, head of the standing team for flood and storm control in Lao Cai, the province hardest hit by the storm.
Thirty-six people were killed and 38 were missing in Lao Cai, which borders China and includes the tourist resort of Sapa, the national committee said the report. ``We are using army helicopters to access these areas to get people out,'' said Dung.
More than 4,500 houses have collapsed or been damaged, while 8,700 hectares (21,498 acres) of rice and other crops have been spoiled in the nine northern mountainous provinces hit by the storm, according to the report. The Southeast Asian nation has more than 9 million hectares of agricultural land.
Tropical storm Kammuri, which buffeted Hong Kong and China earlier last week, reached Vietnam on Aug. 8. The Southeast Asian nation is usually struck by between six to nine storms every year, according to the committee.
``No estimate of the economic losses from the flood and landslide-hit areas is available yet,'' said Hanoi-based Nguyen The Luong, head of the national committee's standing team. ``The committee sees a strong possibility of more floods and landslides downstream because water levels are continuing to rise and more rain is expected.''

Halle-Grace's birth mother...MY HERO!

The United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) is asking the families with children in TQ to find birth parents. They don't believe these mothers wanted to abandon their babies at the orphanage. They only have suspicion. We and the other families have been put through months and months of pain, heartbreak, stress, depression and absolute frustration, not to mention the most important concern of all...what is happening to Halle-Grace and all of the other babies as a result? This is so hard to swallow and hurt beyond imagination!

About Halle Grace’s birth place: Tuyen Quang, Vietnam
*It is among the poorest provinces of the country (the 7th poorest). TQ is located in the hills of northern Vietnam, population 800,000+. It encompasses a geographical area of 5801 square kilometers, almost 80% of the population live in poverty! Most live on 30 cent a day!
*Birth mothers choose not to parent their children due to extreme poverty, with TQ being among the poorest provinces of the country and the cultural consequences of being an unwed mother, such as shame and inability to marry if they have had a child.
*Birth mothers choose to abandon their children rather than relinquish them due to shame at being an unwed mother, fear of reprisal and ostracism from their families of origin if their pregnancy and subsequent birth of children were known to their families and communities, and fear of inability to marry in the future
*Vietnam has one of the highest abortion rates in the world! THANK GOD for Halle-Grace's abandonment! Her birth mom is my hero!
*Birth mothers DO NOT WANT TO BE FOUND due to the above reasons

To Her Birthmother by Tom Fisher

You gave her birth
We’ll give her life
You gave her todays
We’ll give her tomorrows
You gave her race
We’ll give her identity
You gave her heritage
We’ll give her future
You gave her possibilities
We’ll give her potentials
You gave her up
We’ll have to let go
You dream of her future
We’ll work hard for your dreams to come true
You gave her hope
We will too.

It's not over til it's over...

The last of the thirteen 2007 NOID cases has finally cleared after 10 months. Karla is a first time mom who has been in Hanoi with her daughter Madison the entire
time. They are en route to the US, landing in LAX this
evening.

For anyone keeping track, that means that all of those NOIDs were
overturned. Every single one. I hope this news gives those who are
currently struggling with their own cases some hope. Anything is
possible! It's not over 'til it's over

For those of you who are wondering a NOID (notice of intent to deny) is given by the US government (USCIS). They do so when they have specific reasons to deny an adoption.
As you have read ALL NOIDs were overturned! Take into consideration it cost a family THOUSANDS of dollars to fight a NOID (they receive the NOID from the US Gov.)
Now all of the RFEs families (40+)...we have been told there are no "specifics" to why we are not receiving approval but not enough evidence to give us a NOID, so we do as they request and do our best "good faith effort" to locate birth parent(s). Again, pray for this process and all of the families who continue to be seperated from their babies in TQ. We are just 1 of those families!

Tuyen Quang the beauty spot, (Halle Grace IS so beautiful)

2005
Tuyen Quang province in the north of Vietnam is home to women of legendary beauty. So Viet Hung, far from reluctantly, sets off to put the legend to the test.

The beauty of Tuyen Quang girls is so famous that most Vietnamese people have heard the short saying, “Che Thai, gai Tuyen”, which means – Thai Nguyen’s tea, Tuyen Quang’s girls.
Thai Nguyen, which neighbours Tuyen Quang, is the second-largest tea growing area after Lam Dong province in Vietnam. But Tuyen Quang people are prouder that they have their own abundant speciality – beautiful women. Hence the expression.

When I arrive at Son Duong Town, 35 kilometres southeast of Tuyen Quang Town, a group of girls are preparing festivities to commemorate the August Revolution (1945) and Independence Day on September 2.

“Do you know the saying che Thai, gai Tuyen?” I ask Hoang Thi Yen, an 18-year-old Tay-ethnic girl from Ham Yen District, but she only answers me with a charming smile.

Perhaps, she’s too young to even know that once, Tuyen Quang was known as Tien Quang or the bright land where the fairies came to stay.

After convincing Yen and her friends to pose for one photo, I travel on through Yen Son in the afternoon, thinking of Nguyen Trong Tao’s poem, Through the Land of Pretty Girls, along the way.

“The Tuyen Quang beauty wears a silver necklace/ Her lips look red like chilli, both sweet and peppery/ Snowy skin, long legs/ Her skirt flying over the pass.”

When I arrive in Tuyen Quang town, I meet up with Trinh Thanh Phong, a writer and the editor-in-chief of Tan Trao paper.

“The saying ‘che Thai, gai Tuyen’ can’t be that old. But I do recall hearing it when I was about 15,” Phong says. “And yes, Tuyen Quang Town does have a lot of nice girls but they come from everywhere. But in Chiem Hoa District, particularly in Vinh Loc, the girls have a beautiful complexion. I think the mountain air and peaceful rivers there suits them.”

“When I was nearly 20 years old, I loved a very pretty girl from Chiem Hoa, before I joined the army,” he says nostalgically. “Her skin looked just like trung ga boc (boiled chicken egg with no shell). But our love only went as far as holding hands or stroking hair. We maintained contact via letters for three years when I went to fight in Laos. I returned after being wounded in an explosion but by then she’d married another. A first love would do well to end in marriage, I know, but sometimes I wonder,” he says.

I had heard from Dang Huy Quyen, a painter and a playwright, working for Vietnam Television, that after 1954 a wave of overseas Vietnamese from Europe and Thailand repatriated and settled in Tuyen Quang, which Phong acknowledges, adding that in 1956, President Ho Chi Minh issued a document calling for overseas Vietnamese to return home to help build the country’s defence against the French.

Some say Tuyen Quang people’s beauty is a result of Kinh and other ethnic minorities’ marrying.

During the Ly Dynasty from 10 to 12 centuries, princesses were given away in marriage to the local ethnic leaders so as to win their support when the country’s far borders were breached.
Today, Kinh and Tay groups make up 45 per cent and 25 per cent of Tuyen Quang’s total population respectively.

It is also said in 16th century, a king and his senior officials of the Mac Dynasty fled from the Thang Long Citadel bringing many pretty imperial maids along with them to Tuyen Quang.
In 1999, Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong, a writer born in 1937 and a native of Hue City, travelled to Tuyen Quang together with his friend, an overseas Vietnamese man from France.

Both men were startled by the amount of beautiful women and Tuong even published a book entitled Zone of Beauties, which picked up a prize at the Vietnam Association of Writers Awards in 2002.

Tuong says Vietnam has other “zones of beauties”, such as Chau Phong in Ha Tinh province and Chiem Hoa in Quang Binh province, but none can compare to Tuyen Quang, where you can see beautiful girls almost everywhere, all with a natural, unoccupied and elegant grace.
Tuong’s personal theory is that feng shui plays an important part in shaping the beauty of Tuyen Quang girls.

The Lo River, which stems from a river named Qingshui (Pure Water) in China, runs through the province’s mountainous and hilly lands. It is the rule of the gods that where there is nice terrain, there are many beauties.

In fact, Tuyen Quang has a high density of rivers and streams (0.9km per 1 square kilometre). There are three main rivers – the Lo River, the Gam River and the Pho Day River.

But like any other countryside province, young people move to the city for study or work. So local towns in Tuyen Quang not only suffer a brain drain, but a beauty drain too.

As Phong the writer says with a smile, “Hanoi is like a big magnet that lures away Tuyen Quang’s beauties.”

After meeting Phong, I set off back to Chiem Hoa District as night falls. Perhaps, the pretty girls are still there, but there’s another local legend I’m worried about, it is said Tuyen Quang’s girls are also famous for downing spirits.

WHY?

The USCIS/DOS is now telling our agency to run ads (to try to locate birth parents) in the neighboring provinces AND more ads in TQ!!! What does that mean? In my opinion, I feel there is no concrete evidence of anything to do with the RFE cases...however, they did not ask for my opinion and WE still have to prove she is in fact an orphan! Halle Grace and the many other babies remain institutionalized! A sad, sad day in America and TQ!

Happy Birthday Obama! Thank you for sending your staffer and thanks to AMY GREGORIO!

(thank you Amy Gregorio for making this contact, Obama sent a staffer)!

Sent to Elizabeth Olsen, Obama's staffer and advocate for the families!

Good morning. I wanted to thank you again for introducing yourself Friday and your willingness to assist us in our efforts to start our family. As I stated in the briefing, Halle-Grace is our first child and my wife and I, obviously so, have been overjoyed and ecstatic about the prospect of traveling to Vietnam to formally adopt her since our initial referral on March 5, 2008. Unfortunately, our seemingly momentary delay has turned into a living nightmare, where at times, we have been doubtful if we would even be able to adopt our child and begin our family. My hope is bolstered by the compassion of people like yourself and your willingness to assist us in our efforts to start our family.
Let me begin by saying, I found it interesting from the briefing on Friday, with a room full of legislative staffers, you were one of a few that took the time to introduce yourself and offer assistance. I say this because I am currently reading "The Audacity of Hope" and I recently highlighted on page 115 a sentence that caught my eye: "The problems of ordinary people, the voices of the Rust Belt town or the dwindling heartland, become a distant echo rather than a palpable reality, abstractions to be managed rather than battles to be fought." I am hopeful this statement is genuine and real vis-à-vis the hollow and superficial statements I heard at Friday's briefing. Please help us and the other 40+ families fight this battle, not by giving us special treatment, but by ensuring our own government agencies act in the same ethical manner they are demanding of Vietnam!

Jason's email to Ms. Olsen went on for two more pages...He was very impressed with her sincere compassion and concern for the situation at hand! THANK YOU Ms. Olsen!

Featherless Hens, I love you all!

My adoption "support group" is the HOT HENS! We are a group of women who's babies are in the TQ orphanage. We have become incredibly close over the last few months and we email/talk on a daily basis. We have been one another's sounding board, venting buddies, we pull strategy together and we REALLY KNOW how the other is feeling! I felt SO alone until I met my HENS! We will be friends for LIFE as we have endured this pain and it is NOT over yet! I have to believe we will see our babies soon and that will be a HUGE celebration! So why HENS? If you stick your head in a hen coup and mess with her chick, she will peck you! HOT HENS is quite appropriate! We must find something to keep us laughing while we continue to beat our heads against the way day after day as we fight (it feels that way for sure). I am a FEATHERLESS hen for sure! NOTE: Stress makes your hair/feathers fall out!

I know those of you who log on are wanting updates on Halle-Grace. PLEASE remember ALL of the children in TQ! Today, another HEN received a photo of her precious little one... another IV!! Ripped my heart out...cried til I had the "snubs" or whatever that horrible and embarrassing thing is (where you can't breathe"). Many of the babies have been sick. Our agency said when one gets sick, they all get sick (makes sense, they sleep together, eat together) but it still is hard to see them when we can't be there and hold them through a needle stick and IV fluids! That is what mommys do! My mom did it for me and I want to do the same for Halle-Grace! Bless their little hearts! These babies need their mommys! WE need them!

God Bless our children!

Shaohannah's Hope

Hi Shannon,

We will pray for Halle Grace and for the other children who are being affected by this policy issue. We are aware of the current situation regarding the MOU, and know that members of Congress in addition to JCICS and CCAI are in discussions about this with State and we pray that a resolution to this impasse will come soon. I would encourage you to contact the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute: www.ccainstitute.org for more information & help!

Please know that we are praying for the children and this situation in Vietnam and for all the families who are waiting.

Kindest regards,
Wendy

YOUR CHANCE TO HELP US! PLEASE CALL & EMAIL...

CALL OR E-MAIL TODAY!

The Congressional Coalition on Adoption has invited the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to conduct a briefing of Congressional staff on issues related to intercountry adoption in Vietnam , Guatemala along with issues related to intercountry adoption in general. The briefing is scheduled for this Friday, August 1, 2008 in the U.S. Capitol Building, LBJ Room at 10:00 a.m.

Given the pending suspension of intercountry adoption and related services in Vietnam and the continuing issues of concern in Guatemala , Joint Council urges participation by all Congressional staffers. It is critically important that staffers participate in the U.S. Government’s role in international children’s services, specifically intercountry adoption. Given the impact of current issues on children and families, Joint Council urges 100% participation by Congressional staffers in this very important briefing.

In order to gain the largest possible participation, please contact your Congressional Representatives and Senators' offices and urge staffers to participate in the briefing.

Contact information for U.S. Senator’s offices can be found at www.senate.gov

Contact information for U.S. Representatives offices can be found at www.house.gov

If you choose to contact your representatives, please do so today by email or phone call, and request that they send staff to Friday’s briefing.

This briefing follows the briefing conducted for Congressional Staff last Friday, July 25th by child advocates and experts including Joint Council. These briefings and continuing participation by congressional offices in the ongoing issues related to international children’s services is critically important to the continuation of intercountry adoption as a viable solution for children in need.

Typing Through Tears...of JOY & sadness

Today, Thuy sent updated photos of Halle Grace! She is 8 months old. She is sitting up and crawling (or scootin around). She is SO beautiful!!! I wanted to share these precious images. I don't know what is wrong with her hand or why it is bandaged? I pray it's a simple little boo-boo? Sad thing is, like most mommys, I can't kiss it away!

I have tears of JOY to see her face, to know that she is OK, seems happy and is the MOST precious, adorable, beautiful little girl on the earth...I am incredibly sad because I am her mom and yet I can't hold my daughter and she is 8 months old!

Please continue to pray that our Gov. will expedite all of the cases in her orphanage and we will be able to hold our daughter!

My hope is in the Lord...so please, pray that he can soften hearts where they need to be and that the Gov. officials will put the CHILDREN first!

THANK YOU THUY...you are an angel for so many of us waiting to be united with our children.

Too much to type!

The last few days have been INCREDIBLY stressful! Last night we received a prelim. review of what CAS is doing...running ads AGAIN for the birth mothers to come forward....and more!

Our attorney continues to work on our behalf..

Yesterday, I contacted John Wally Bird (USCIS) and he was very, very PLEASANT! He too is going through an adoption process! He seemed to understand the pain and the way this type of stress can HAULT your entire life!

Jason spoke with Richard Burr's office and they have been all over this and will continue to be!

I am beat! I am tired! I am sick to my stomach and scared to death! If I went into all of the detail we have dealt with in the last 48 hours you would be reading all day and your head would spin off!!! Trust me, this is the HARDEST thing we have ever endured...our baby stuck in an orphanage, what happens next....moving to a foreign country for 2 years, how will we get Gabby there, will our medical case 1001 cocker spaniel have the medications she needs (go ahead and laugh so you don't cry, that is what I MUST do these days), what will we do for work in order to live and pay rent and buy food....the list goes on!

If we have to move outside of the USA for 2 years we are ready to do so. We just wait now until our agency completes their additional ads they must run!

Pray for "Ms. Hannigan & Rooster"...the hens know them well.

Again, please continue to pray! Jason & I are incredibly down and out! God is with us, I know that! He is also with the 40+ other babies in the TQ orphanage watching over them and that is the ONLY reason I look forward to another day!

God Bless our babies in TQ!

Meeting in DC next Wednesday!

Our attorney in Washington, DC is also representing other families stuck in the current situation. One of the HOT HENS has secured n important meeting involving Representative Price next Wed. Price has been a huge advocate during this "fight for our children" as well. So, if you are in his district in eastern NC....don't forget him come next election time! We need the help of our representatives and Congress to advocate to GET the "specific information" about what needs to be provided in response to the RFE...to prove our children living in the Tuyen Quang (TQ) orphanage are really orphans! I know it sounds crazy every time I type it...as I have already stated, if you live in the ocean, you are probably a fish or some type of sea creature! Common sense has been thrown out the window!

Halle Grace continues to seperated from us, her mom & dad! The other babies/children do as well. If you are reading this, please be in constant prayer for the families! I believe in the POWER of prayer! Even if you don't, pray anyway, because I know He hears you and I appreciate you taking the time to do so! So many friends and family have asked Jason & I on numerous occasions...what can we do to help? Well, if you know President Bush personally and can call him PLEASE SPEAK UP! If you know someone personally inside the DOS or USCIS in Washington, DC...PLEASE SPEAK UP! If you have a ton of money that can be shared to pay all of the added legal expenses for all of the families...PLEASE SPEAK UP...LOL!!! But seriously, PRAY! That is all we can do at this point. We have worked deligently since April fighting everyday, contacting everyone you can imagine.

Our agency told me this morning that all paperwork has been turned over to their attorney for review and hopefully we will have these reports soon to share with our personal immigration attorney....EXHAUSTING! Jason & I are BEAT UP!

Again, this is going to be a long road and when we received our RFE on July 19th they told us we had 84 days to respond...I think that is Oct. 11th??? I pray Halle Grace is home to celebrate her 1st birthday!

God Bless you all and remember the TQ families and our children!

BRING ALL OF THE BABIES HOME!!!

If you know Jason & I, you know I am the firecracker and he is the passive and one. Jason has turned over a new leaf! I have to say I am impressed and thrilled! The time he spent in the United States Air Force has come in quite handy! He has been able to elevate the TQ cases to get even more attention. The below email is one Jason sent an individual within the our gov. who is guiding the 40+ families as to what is acceptible to prove "the children who have lived in the orphanage their entire lives are in fact ORPHANS". I know it sounds so incredibly silly but sadly, it is true!

Melissa and Heidi, you ladies are in my thoughts and prayers and I cried for both of you last night after the email trail from the HOT HENS. Melissa and Heidi's babies are celebrating their first birthday away from their forever families in an orphanage! Melissa told us last night she sent her baby girl a birthday package! If you don't cry on that, something is wrong! Our babies need to come home! They are NOT terrorists!

Today we are sending via Fed Ex more paperwork to our attorney who is continuing to work on the cases. The US Gov. told us on Saturday (July 19th) in the RFE that we have 84 days to respond and prove Halle Grace is an orphan. They will not accept anything from the orphanage as evidence because they have said and stated in emails and on a teleconference that they do not believe anything they say...WOW! Yet, in America, COLD blooded criminals caught in the act (i.e. the man who shot and killed Trooper Shawn Blanton) are granted the right to a fair trial, an attorney and during the mean time Shawn's killer gets a cell with air conditioning, HBO and hot meals. God Bless Michaela and Tye! The man who killed Shawn doesn't deserve anything in my opinion except JUSTICE!

Halle Grace and the other children in her orphanage DO NOT have air conditioning and it is extremely HOT and HUMID. The mosquitos are horrible as well and they all sleep together so you know they are hot! However, I know they are happy and God is watching over them all. He tells us in His word and mentions specifically how HE cares for orphans! Our children get as much love and care as the nannies can possibly provide and they love the children! I know she is loved and taken care of but she is still institutionalized! For every day a baby is institutionalized...developmental delays become an issue. We will deal with anything, we just want her home and in our arms! I could go on for days!
_________
I think it is obvious you and I don't see eye to eye on this matter. If we were in a simple debate I would say, "lets agree to disagree." However, a simple debate, this is not, and unfortunately, you are in a position that allows you to have the authority to make a decision that will affect the rest of my life. For that reason I cannot simply sit back and passively agree to this approach.

What I have yet to understand and/or have satisfactorily explained to me is the seemingly arbitrary break from protocol in these matters. As you have said below my file "still contains some indications that the child qualifies," and that historically in cases such as these, one has to show "the child is more likely than not an orphan." The fact that this case simply happens to be at an orphanage you have suspected in the past does not qualify my child's case as inappropriate or shady. "Guilty by association" simply is not an appropriate response. To me, it seems the decisions to issue mass RFEs without adherence or consideration to established protocol is subjective in nature and outside the scope of operating instructions.

I am also very concerned about your response to my question of 'who will be reviewing these RFE rebuttals and making a decision thereupon?'. "As for who will review, the normal path of a case, should an rfe be issued is that the review will happen in Ho Chi Minh City and in our Bangkok office. Since there has been nothing normal about these cases, I cannot say with 100% certainty that this will be how your cases is reviewed, but again, this is the normal case."
Are these cases being elevated to a higher office for review? Could you please be specific as to who the "usual reviewing office" is and, if not the usual office, who these cases will be elevated to? Again, sorry to be so particular but this is my daughter we are talking about and I am leaving nothing to chance.

Once again, thank you for your response.

Immigration Attorney~ Keep the prayers coming!

We feel confident we have hired the BEST person to fight this fight...well, if our Gov. would tell us what they want other than the "birth" parents!!! "PROVE she is an orphan" HELLO, I am no brain surgeon but if you swim in the ocean 24 hours a day you are probably a fish or a whale or a dolphin...Halle Grace has been in the orphanage her entire life... so what would you call her? AN ORPHAN!!! What happened to common sense? Did I miss something?

I am physically, mentally, emotionally and now with the immigration attorney, financially drained! LOL! PLEASE PRAY!

Congressman McHenry continues to be a HUGE advocate for our family and the 40+ other families who are fighting to bring their children home! If you see him or have a chance to vote for him, DO! He sincerely cares about his people!

Today Jason made contacts and is using his military connections to help with the chain of command! We need to know who answers to who? He sent a clarification email to the USCIS in HCM and they had an automatic "out of office" reply...stating that due to the high volume, it may take up to three days to respond! OK, DOES THAT MEAN WE GET 3 EXTRA DAYS ON OUR TIMELINE THAT CANNOT BE EXTENDED WITH THE RFE? Boy, they are not on our side. THEY HAVE NEVER REPLIED TO US DURING THIS ENTIRE PROCESS! Not acceptible and incredibly UNPROFESSIONAL in my opinion!

My adoption support group "THE HOT HENS" are keeping me going and keeping my spirits up! I don't know what I would do without you guys! I know you read here so THANK YOU! Keep those beaks and claws sharp and let's bring our babies home!

Please continue to pray for this battle! We have not received an update on Halle Grace lately! It is heartbreaking to see her grow up in photos...knowing our gov. is keeping us seperated and wondering, what if they don't allow her to come home and just send her to another family in Europe? OH MY, I must remain optimistic and stop this other mess! God is in control and He will not give us more than we can handle! When you talk to HIM, please tell Him the TQ families are feeling a bit overwhelmed! lol. Hey, if He can part the red sea, he can move heart strings of certain officials to do what is best for these children...BRING THEM HOME!

God Bless

Halle-Grace is 8 months old...USCIS delivers the most devastating news!

Halle Grace turned 8 months old on Saturday, July 19th! The very same day, we received a request for further evidence (RFE). The US Gov. says we must prove that Halle Grace is an orphan! We are devastated! Finding a birth mom is the only true way we can prove this! There are cultural reasons that the birth parent(s) DO NOT want to be found!

Pray that we (along with the MANY other families who received the same letter) will find answers soon and bring our babies home.

My heart is broken! My tiny miracle remains institutionalized.

Jul 14, 2008

New information

One of the issues the US gov. had with the 40+ abandonments was the fact that the same police officer found the babies (or logged them in at the orphanage). That officer is in fact the ONLY officer that works in Tuyen Quang!!! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!! Pray this is the turn in events we have all been praying for.

Thank you all for your continued prayers! Halle Grace has our hearts and we will bring her home if it takes a year.....or....well, pray it's soon!

Scared to practice "freedom of speech"!

I fear that certain individuals inside our government will do just about anything to find a way to make our lives miserable and that is incredibly sad that I feel this way! I know it sounds horrible and I never in a million years thought I would have to fear our "allys" but in the adoption, I am afraid I do! Please continue to pray as we have no idea what is going to happen and what type of LETTER we will be receiving from the USCIS/DOS in the next 10 days(?). Here is the bottom line....the USCIS/DOS feels there is NO way there were 40+ babies abandoned in Halle Grace's province/orphanage. With over 800,000 people in a province, that number seems incredibly LOW to me...again, no one asked for my opinion.

God is testing me and I want to pass, so I NEED your prayers more than ever! So, now we must prove that a child who has lived in an orphanage her entire life is in fact, an orphan!

Just to give you the setting of her province...it's extremely poor and out-of-wedlock pregnancies are greatly despised by northern Vietnamese society leading to abandonment. Life is extremely difficult and dangerous for these people. Imagine life for extremely rural Europeans roughly 400-500 years ago and you'll have some idea of what life is like there. Most people, especially from the minority groups, have no electricity or running water. For many birth parents, the orphanage is used as a "feeding center" and the only way a child will get food. Most of the abandoned children from the rural areas were not born in a hospital, more than likely in the bedroom at home therefore producing NO birth records. Finding the birth parents of abandoned children is almost impossible because child abandonment in Vietnam is illegal. Why would they want to admit that they abandoned their child in front of authorities? This "real-life" description was provided by someone who knows what life is like in the TQ province. This is not a description taken from a "google search". This is life in TQ, Halle-Grace's birth place!

We are scared to death. If they make us find Halle Grace's birth parent(s)...based on what you read in bold above, how in the world are we going to be successful AND we are in the United States...across the world!

Thank you for your continued prayers.

JUST PRAY!

MANY families who's children (including Halle Grace) continue to be stuck in the orphanage, had a conference call. We are all waiting to find out the status of our individual cases. In the near future we should be receiving a letter. PLEASE let it be an approval! It could be a request for evidence (RFE). In the RFE case, we, the adoptive parents must find a way to PROVE that Halle Grace is an orphan(???) We don't know what is going to happen! Please pray we all get approvals!!! We look at our daughter's photos as we have watched her grow over the past months and not bringing her home is just not an option! There are so many amazing families who are also fighting for their children, so please just pray that we all receive approvals and are able to bring our children home soon! These children need loving homes! Pray that our Government will help us bring our children home.

On a positive note, Congressman McHenry's Washinton, DC office called us last week to inform us that he signed the Child's Right Act! He is an amazing person and outstanding representative! His staff (especially David McCrary) is incredibly supportive and truly cares about our family. They want to see our baby girl come home. Thank you Congressman McHenry!

"Do you want to do something beautiful for God? There is a person who needs you. This is your chance." Mother Teresa

I wanted to take this time to THANK everyone who reached out to your elected officials in support of the CHILD'S RIGHT CAMPAIGN! I sent many of you emails, made phone calls and spoke to you in person and the amount of response I received was humbling and overwhelming! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Thank you for being a voice for those who can't speak, the orphans around the world!

We are hoping and praying for Aug. travel dates to bring Halle-Grace home to be with her FOREVER FAMILY! We are so blessed and lucky!!!

Baby Tye & Michaela are in our thoughts and prayers!

Please pray for my friend Michaela and her baby boy Tye! Words cannot describe the pain I have felt for my friend, yet, words cannot heal in times like these...so I go to the Lord in prayer! Only He knows exactly how she is feeling. Baby Tye is so tiny as you can see. I know he is a fighter for his mommy. His daddy was taken from them just a week ago. NC Trooper David Shawn Blanton was killed in the line of duty! This horrific and senseless crime has touched so many people across our nation.

I know many adoptive parents read my blog. I know we are experiencing our hardships but nothing compares to the pain Michaela has endured! Please say a special prayer for both of them.

Thank you & God Bless!

~Praying for an approval~

This week has been pretty tough. We really expected to hear, "make plans, it's time to travel to meet your baby girl". Waiting is incredibly hard. This is the point where our faith is put to the test. I know that God has placed this little baby in our lives! I also know that He will make this plan complete! When? At this point I guess I am on a "need to know basis", He will let me know when He thinks I need to! LOL

As I type this I am sitting in her nursery. I have started praying here at night because I will pray with her each night like my mom did with me (and tell her 100 times, no there are no monsters in the closet, well at least I asked that 100 times)... so now seems like a perfect time to get started. It is quiet in here and very peaceful. I have her precious photo and I read books to her. I know you are reading this thinking, "this woman is a loon"! It is all that I have at this point...her photos, God's comfort, hope for tomorrow and endless praying for patience and peace and our approval!

The books are great by the way. Tonight I read "The Lord is My Shepherd" by Hans Wilhelm. It is so sweet. It was a gift from my sister and it brought me a lot of comfort tonight. It follows the Psalm but in terms that a child can understand. "The Lord is my Shepherd, He gives me everything I need. He lets me rest in green pastures. He leads me to quiet pools of water. He gives me new strength when I am tired...." and the illustrations are precious. The lamb is so tiny! I love it! Thank you Suzie!

Once I make it through the books, I'll read them again or maybe start watching Baby Einstein? LOL

Please continue to pray for this process. Adoption is another word for love...and the little one I love is across the globe! I can't wait to hold her in my arms, rock her to sleep, teach her the funny songs my daddy taught me "The Animal Fair" and begin making memories together as a family!

Thank you for your prayers!

Only God could love you more

Please continue to pray for Halle-Grace, her nannies, all of the children in her orphanage...ALL children and ALL orphanages around the world!

Pray that we will be notified soon about when we can bring our tiny miracle home!

God Bless!
